The Garage
This is where the magic happens! - The garage is a gym on the side of the Green family home and is fully equipped but still supporting a ‘go to work, leave when you have done enough’ kind of gym. Marine Green a.k.a. Kevin or MG (my long-standing training partner of decades and beloved friend) put ourselves through our routine of physical torture and listen to old school music that is good for the soul. MG a former Marine, me former ~Air Arm and both RN Physical Trainers, it’s fair to say we know our way around a gym and are fully aware of what we need to do to stay in the fight. I have been in charge since the beginning (of workouts at least, that is!) I can push myself hard leading and he can follow not knowing or caring what’s coming next, I hate not knowing (had enough of that) and he doesn’t wanna think, the perfect team. Also, I might point out (no doubt to MG’s disagreement) I can keep track of what is going down- all I’m saying is 128 fights 112 victories has taken it’s told my brother! 🤣💚
We have a five-minute offload of anything on our minds, workout (sadly among many things I can’t fight/grapple or sea swim anymore; I just work with beds and pathetic weights), then, the workout must finish with a cup of herbal tea and catch up/planning. Recently our post workout conversations have been becoming increasing more spiritual; I mean they’ve always been deep; MG would discuss my studies and readings with me all the time and share his learning but, now we are really enjoying expanding and philosophising spiritually too. Most importantly of all is that we do not have anything negative or harmful to others and we do not disrespect MG’s music choice for the workout! We only have certain people join us for a workout (we value our peace too much), especially to join us for a prolonged period. We have some unique people from all over coming and going from time to time and recently we had an incredibly special visitor from Boston, Massachusetts, USA. My dear friend Rick, reinforcing to us that age really is just a number.
In recent years the garage training has been, not only the usual mind and body necessity, but it’s also been a lifeline for my mobility and range of movement I still have. Anyway, this is in the Event section because this is where I have prepared for all my events of late, previously it was always military gyms and some civi gyms thrown in.
To sum it up MG and I class the garage as a spiritual and physical lifeline.
